BISHOP'S VISIT TO
OUR LADY OF THE SEAS AND OCRACOKE

Bishop Michael F. Burbridge, of the Diocese of Raleigh will
visit our parish on July 25/26/27. The Bishop will be the main
celebrant and homilist at all Masses.
The visit will begin with the 6:30 PM Mass Friday, July 25th on
Ocracoke at the Methodist Church with a reception following in
the Methodist Hall. The Mass will be bi-lingual.
On Saturday, July 26th there will be a reception for all parish
volunteers and parishioners in our Social Hall from 5:00 to
6:30 PM. Since the Bishop is unable to say the Sunday Evening
Spanish Mass, the 7:00 PM Mass which follows the reception
will be partly bi-lingual. Most of the Mass will be in English and
some of the songs will be done by René and the Children’s Choir.
On Sunday, July 27th the Bishop will be celebrant and homilist
at the 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Masses. A reception will be held in
the Hall between Masses from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. The Bishop
will return to Raleigh following the 11:00 AM Mass.
At the priests annual retreat last year, Bishop Burbridge
said he hoped to visit every parish within the next two years. This
is a demanding schedule, the Diocese has 78 parishes and Our
Lady of the Seas is 260 miles from Raleigh. I hope that all
parishioners and friends are able to meet the Bishop.
Historical Note: During World War II, two Army Chaplains
met in the South Pacific, Father Vincent Waters and Father Bill
Buckley. After the War, Father Waters became the Bishop of
Raleigh, then the entire State of North Carolina; and Father
Buckley became the Provincial and then Father General of the
Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. The Oblates were asked to take
some parishes in this State. At that time, our Mission Statement
listed our work as the foreign missions, education, and the
needs of the church (a wise statement of purpose). We now
have six parishes in the Charlotte Diocese and eight parishes
in the Raleigh Diocese.

Father Bob & Molly

Please let Fr. Bob know when a parishioner or family member is in the hospital or homebound.  He would appreciate the opportunity to visit and offer his services.
